Apoptotic Protease-Activating Factor 1
"Apoptotic Protease-Activating Factor 1" is a descriptor in the National Library of Medicine's controlled vocabulary thesaurus,
MeSH (Medical Subject Headings). Descriptors are arranged in a hierarchical structure,
which enables searching at various levels of specificity.
A CARD signaling adaptor protein characterized by an N-terminal CARD DOMAIN and C-terminal WD40 REPEATS. It plays a role in the mitochondria-stimulated apoptosis (APOPTOSIS, INTRINSIC PATHWAY) and binds to CYTOCHROME C in the CYTOSOL to form an APOPTOSOMAL PROTEIN COMPLEX which activates INITIATOR CASPASES such as CASPASE 9.
