    Collapse overview
As a Pediatric Intensivist, I care for critically ill children while pursuing biomedical discoveries that illuminate the mechanisms of inflammation and thrombosis and their treatments. My overarching career goal is to reduce morbidity and mortality in critically ill patients by integrating my clinical expertise, educational leadership, and scientific innovation.

Clinically, I am board-certified in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine, and I serve as Co‑Director of the Texas Children’s Hospital Liver Intensive Care Unit (LICU). Established in 2014, the LICU is a transformative, multidisciplinary program in which liver transplant surgeons, hepatologists, and intensivists collaborate to optimize outcomes for children with liver failure. Through this model, we have successfully reduced peri‑transplant mortality. I am also an attending physician on the Texas Children’s Hospital Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) team, where I provide direct patient care and conduct research aimed at improving ECMO-related outcomes. In recognition of my contributions to the field, I was elected as a Fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine (FCCM), a merit-based honor across all disciplines of critical care.

I am equally committed to educating the next generation of Pediatric Intensivists. As an Associate Program Director for the BCM Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship, I developed a comprehensive year-long curriculum for fellows and advanced practice providers at Baylor/Texas Children’s Hospital and for fellowship programs nationwide. I also direct the LICU Instructorship Program, expanding specialized training in liver critical care. Additionally, I served on the Editorial Board of the American Academy of Pediatrics PREP‑ICU course, authoring questions and critiques that support lifelong learning for intensivists. Within the College, I mentor junior researchers through the K-Club and Specific Aims Workshops as a moderator. Currently, I collaborate with colleagues across the country to develop a national pediatric critical care curriculum.

As an NIH-funded physician–scientist, my research focuses on how neutrophils, platelets, and endothelial cells coordinate microvascular inflammation and thrombosis, which are processes central to diseases treated in the intensive care unit. I have published widely on these topics and have secured funding from the NIH and private foundations. My laboratory is pursuing three major areas: (1) developing novel proteins to attenuate inflammation and viral illness; (2) evaluating microfluidic devices in vitro and in vivo; and (3) defining platelet-mediated mechanisms of microvascular inflammation and thrombosis. My national recognition includes invited reviews and book chapters, leadership roles within scientific organizations such as the Society of Critical Care Medicine and The Microcirculatory Society, and advocacy for biomedical research, including a recent invitation to speak with members of Congress on Capitol Hill.

In summary, I embody the three pillars of Baylor College of Medicine: excellence in patient care, dedication to educating future clinicians and scientists, and commitment to advancing biomedical science. These pillars together drive my ultimate goal, which is to improve the health and well-being of critically ill children.
