Dr. Vaughan is a physician at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, Texas) in the Department of Medicine, Divisions of General Internal Medicine and Atherosclerosis and Vascular Medicine. Her primary interest is improving diabetes care for resource-poor populations by utilizing Community Health Workers (CHWs) and telehealth support. Dr. Vaughan’s career interest was prompted by international experiences as a Registered Dietitian (RD) and during medicine training. This interest started more than 25 years ago during work in Central and South America with her observations that locals often produced nutritious foods at their farms but lacked the knowledge of the necessity to consume these products. This led to becoming a RD. As a RD, Dr. Vaughan observed medical needs beyond nutrition as she worked with resource-poor minorities in urban US sites. This resulted in pursing her medical degree. As a physician Dr. Vaughan spent time working in Thane, India, Kijabe, Kenya, and Texas border towns. These experiences introduced her to value or CHWs and telehealth and their great potential to improve low-income healthcare.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication.
