    Collapse overview
I am a reproductive biologist specialized in reproductive endocrinology and metabolism. I have vast experience in the field of sex hormone signaling and its relevance in reproduction and metabolism. I am involved in translational research and teaching. I am passionate about applying my research expertise to improve health care. I also teach and mentor residents and fellows.

My research team is working towards understanding the developmental origins of diseases and its role in reproduction and metabolism. Developmental programming is a recent concept whereby adverse environment during critical periods of early development predisposes the organism to increased risk of metabolic diseases in adult life. We are currently investigating the roles of hormones and nutrition during early development and its implication in the developmental origin of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and type 2 diabetes respectively.

We use mouse PCOS models to investigate the effects of the disease on ovary, oocytes and embryos. We are currently studying the role of androgens in mitochondrial function and metabolism. We also recently developed a novel low protein programmed lean type 2 diabetic rat model to investigate the role of developmental programming of type 2 diabetes.

Our team is also involved in improving quality and developing novel technologies to assist in fertility treatments. My lab’s mission is to improve reproductive success by (i) bringing new cutting edge assisted reproductive technologies and to apply it to our patients, (ii) to better understand the mechanisms of reproductive diseases and (iii) to foster an environment of knowledge driven patient care and education in the center.

Other than research and teaching, I also work as an andrologist and junior embryologist at the Family Fertility Center, Texas Children’s Hospital.

PMC Citations indicate the number of times the publication was cited by articles in PubMed Central, and the Altmetric score represents citations in news articles and social media. (Note that publications are often cited in additional ways that are not shown here.) Fields are based on how the National Library of Medicine (NLM) classifies the publication's journal and might not represent the specific topic of the publication. Translation tags are based on the publication type and the MeSH terms NLM assigns to the publication. Some publications (especially newer ones and publications not in PubMed) might not yet be assigned Field or Translation tags.) Click a Field or Translation tag to filter the publications.
