Dr. Sockrider is a pediatric pulmonologist and Chief of the Pulmonary Clinics at Texas Children's Hospital. She has a doctorate in Public Health in Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Her research has focused primarily on self-management of chronic disease, particularly asthma and cystic fibrosis. She has been involved in a number of behavioral and clinical research studies. She is the Pediatric PI for the Baylor College of Medicine Asthma/Airways Clinical Research Center site of the American Lung Association Airways Clinical Research Network. She was granted a Preventive Pulmonary Academic Award from NHLBI as a young faculty investigator.
She has also been very involved in medical and patient education. She is a Fellow with the American Thoracic Society (ATS) and serves as the ATS Associate Editor for Patient Education. She has served as Chair of the ATS Behavioral Science Health Services Research Assembly and received its Lifetime Achievement Award. She has been recognized with a number of teaching awards. She is project leader for the nationally distributed Cystic Fibrosis Family Education Program. She helped develop the National Asthma Educator Board (NAECB) Certification Exam. She is a consultant to the National Board of Respiratory Care for its Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty Exam. She works with pediatric residents and pediatric pulmonary fellows in the inpatient and ambulatory setting. She also has been active in providing continuing education to specialist and primary care providers.
